How Often Do I Need to Change My EV’s Battery?

With an electric vehicle (EV), you’ll never have to go to the gas pump ever again, which is great for your wallet and your well-being. However, just like gasoline and diesel vehicles need major engine service eventually, electric cars need their drive batteries replaced after a certain time. While infrequent, this can be the most expensive maintenance task for EVs. As the owner of an electric car, making your EV battery last longer will help you save money in the long run. It's critical to understand how long your EV battery will last so that you are informed of all the expenses related to your car. Learn more about the batteries in electric cars, their life span, and ways to preserve and extend your battery's range with this Koons Tysons Toyota guide. When Should I Change my EV Battery? Although battery life span and resistance to range loss vary depending on the automaker and vehicle, current batteries in electric cars can last for tens of thousands of miles, often up to 100,000 in a new Toyota. Unless you drive an unusually high number of miles per year or put the drivetrain through very rough conditions, your new EV battery shouldn't need to be replaced for many years. Each electric car sold will have an owner's manual with specific times to change the battery, usually with a mileage recommendation similar to the warranty coverage limit. Like with all lithium-ion batteries, there will be some reduction in an EV's charge capacity over the years. The average range loss for EVs is 2.3% per year, although this considers new and old EVs currently on the road. There are predictions that current electric automotive batteries could last as long as 20 years. Why Do EV Batteries Need Replacement? Some people visit a Toyota service center and are surprised to learn that their battery needs replacement earlier than expected. Some motivations for replacing EV batteries include the following: Older Technology: Due to a less advanced battery or drivetrain design or the vehicle needing maintenance, your battery may need to be changed more frequently if your car is older. Battery Damage or Wear: Your battery will probably need to be replaced if it was compromised in an accident or by some other kind of harm. Certain habits, such as letting the battery get too close to empty or fast charging all the time, can wear down the components necessary to maintain a charge. Warranty Coverage: Most EV manufacturers offer a warranty on their electric drivetrain and battery systems, usually eight to 10 years and a set number of miles. If your battery needs to be replaced, ignoring the recommended service window might lead to losing warranty coverage. The battery pack in your car can be changed for free at the right shop if it’s still covered by warranty, of course, but some automakers will only do so if the battery has lost a significant portion of its range. Since Toyota is known as a hybrid pioneer, their only current all-electric car is the new 2023 bZ4X. This compact SUV is built with just as much attention to detail as the rest of the automaker's varied lineup. It also gets an eight-year/100,000-mile EV Component Warranty covering the traction battery and all related EV parts. In some cases, individual battery cells can be replaced, helping restore your car's range to its factory levels before getting to the point where replacement is necessary. For some drivers, simply waiting to get a replacement may be the better choice, and our team can help you decide. How Much Does an EV Battery Replacement Cost? Your EV’s drive battery basically serves as the engine. It's a critical part and one that has a lot of rare metals and important components. Battery packs for EVs can range in price from $5,000 to $20,000. Luxury electric cars tend to cost the most to maintain. If you want to save time and money, it’s important where you get your EV serviced. The last thing anyone needs is multiple visits to fix issues caused by an improperly installed EV battery. At generic automotive shops or dealerships not certified to service your vehicle make and model, it's uncertain what level and quality of work you might get. Schedule a battery replacement and other parts of a much-needed EV service checkup at Koons Tysons Toyota service center. How Can I Make an Electric Car Battery Last Longer? Taking care of an electric car battery is fairly straightforward. As with mobile phones and laptop computers, avoid fully charging or fully depleting the battery repeatedly, as going below 20% or above 80% too often can be hard on the system. Some other pointers include gradually accelerating and other defensive driving tips. When recharging your automobile, try to plan ahead so that you don't need a fast charge, as repeated fast charging could have consequences. Although EVs often advertise how quickly they can fast charge, it's still the most intense method. Fast charging repeatedly or exclusively can damage a new electric car battery and may reduce its range and life span sooner. Lastly, try to park under a roof and out of the sun or in a garage to reduce the EV battery’s exposure to extreme heat or cold. Hybrid vs Electric Cars: Buyer's Guide

As battery and electric powertrain technology continue to improve, so do the vehicles using this new technology. Manufacturers of the first hybrid and electric cars targeted a small segment of drivers looking to lower their carbon footprint and save money. Thus, the vehicles produced were efficient and practical. However, as popularity for the hybrid and EV market grew, demand for these vehicles to perform rose with it. Also, drivers wanted more comfort and convenience features found in traditional gas-powered cars. Today, car manufacturers have listened to their customers and now have multiple hybrid and EV models tiers. Hybrid and electric vehicles offer luxurious interiors loaded with technology and come with performance features that deliver a spirited, fun-to-drive experience. In addition, the hybrid and EV market has grown to the point where several manufacturers plan to eliminate the gas powertrain within the next ten years. If you find yourself part of the growing hybrid and EV tribe, how do you decide between the two? Well, at Koons Tysons Toyota, we understand the challenges these new technologies present to drivers looking to understand them. That's why we created this assessment of hybrid and electric vehicles to help you make an informed decision. What Is a Hybrid Powertrain? Let's start with the basics of what makes a hybrid powertrain. As the name suggests, a hybrid blends electric and gas technologies to power a vehicle. A hybrid powertrain has a traditional gas engine that uses an electric motor powered by a small battery to add horsepower. Your basic hybrid powertrain uses the power created from the gas engine to recharge the battery as you drive. For instance, the new Toyota Corolla Hybrid uses a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine and two electric motors to put out a combined 121 horsepower. A lithium-ion battery powers the two electric motors and maintains a charge from energy created by the gas engine and regenerative braking. What Is a Plug-in Hybrid Powertrain? As you might have guessed, a plug-in hybrid plugs into an external power source to recharge the battery. A plug-in hybrid powertrain still uses gas and electricity to propel the vehicle, but the battery and electric motor play a much larger role in the equation. For starters, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) use a much larger battery than ordinary hybrids. You generally find a larger electric motor in a PHEV. This larger battery and electric motor add significant horsepower and torque. In most cases, PHEVs can run in an all-electric mode, shutting down the gas engine completely. As a result, you save money on gasoline using only electricity. However, electric-only does have some limitations, particularly in driving range. For instance, the Toyota Prius Prime with a full tank of gas and a fully charged battery has an impressive total driving range of 640 miles. In electric-only mode, the Prius Prime can drive 25 miles on a single charge. Since the average American drives 16 miles to work each way, you can significantly reduce your gas fuel expense with a PHEV. If your employer has a charging station at work, you can recharge during your workday and never have to use the gas powertrain, saving even more money. What Is an Electric Vehicle Powertrain? Again, the name says it all. An electric vehicle has no gasoline engine. Instead, it comes with one or more batteries and as many as three electric motors. Without the gas engine, you rely entirely on your batteries for power. Most EVs have a regenerative braking system that converts energy used from braking into electricity sent to the battery. However, this technology doesn't supply enough electricity to recharge your batteries significantly. It helps extend your range, but that's all. Driving range has always been the biggest factor when considering an EV. As battery technology has improved, the driving range has lengthened accordingly. Today, all-electric vehicles can drive well over 200 miles on a single charge, with some reaching nearly 400 miles. Most experts believe in the next few years, EVs will top 500 miles of driving range. Even at the low end, EVs can make the daily commute and then some without needing a charge. Moreover, with a growing charging station network, you can plan long trips without running out of power. Home and Public Charging Stations So, an electric vehicle must be recharged using an external power source. At home, you need a charging station. Typically, you get two charging options, a Level 2 fast-charging 240-volt outlet and a slower Level 1 120-volt outlet. Most PHEVs can charge just fine with a Level 1 charging station because they have smaller batteries, generally no more than 20 kWh. An all-electric vehicle has multiple batteries that can reach as high as 100 kWh, making the Level 2 charging station more desirable. Level 2 charging can recharge batteries in 1-3 hours versus the Level 1 charging time of 6-10 hours. In the Washington, D.C.-Virginia-Maryland area, you can find hundreds of public charging stations, many of which don't cost a penny. Many businesses installed them as a courtesy to their customers. So now you can go out to your favorite restaurant or outlet mall and have your battery recharged while you eat or shop. There are thousands of public charging networks nationwide. Which Powertrain Should You Choose? The answer to this question boils down to your lifestyle and specific driving requirements. How far you need to travel in your daily commute and the occasional road trip must be considered. Many drivers still worry about EVs running out of power, which can happen if you don't plan accordingly. Plug-in hybrids offer the best efficiency using only electricity while still providing you the ability to use gas power. With a gas station seemingly on every corner in metro areas, this gives drivers confidence. At Koons Tysons Toyota, we understand the impact that hybrid and electric vehicle technology can have on your wallet and the environment. That's why we stock an expansive inventory of hybrid and plug-in hybrid sedans and SUVs. If you're ready to lower your carbon footprint and raise your driving experience, we invite you to browse our inventory online. Then, when you're ready for a personal demonstration of hybrid electric technology, you can stop by our dealership on Leesburg Pike in Vienna. One of our friendly, knowledgeable salespeople will show you the different hybrid models and let you take your favorite for a test drive. Image via Toyota

Technology and Infotainment As vehicle technology has advanced, Toyota has implemented ingenious, user-friendly components into each of its new RAV4 models. We predict the 2023 model will be no different. We can find out what to expect by examining the technology in the current RAV4. In the 2022 model, drivers get a 9-inch multimedia display for audio and navigation, a digital rearview mirror for high-resolution vision, a 7-inch color multi-information display to see directions, safety information, and alerts, and USB ports and wireless charging. You also get Connected Services and remote connect to start the engine remotely and call for roadside assistance. Safety and Security Toyota is known for developing some of the safest cars in the world. The Toyota Safety Sense is standard on many models and includes a variety of safety features like a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure alert and tracing assist, automatic high beams, and road sign assist. As the 2022 RAV4 Hybrid received the NHTSA Five-Star Overall Safety Rating, the 2023 model's sure to be just as safe and reliable, if not more so. The latest launch will probably come with capabilities like blind-spot monitoring, traction control, brake assistance, and stability control. Price The price of next year's RAV4 model will depend on the changes Toyota makes to the model and the various components of the redesign. Regarding the current 2022 model, the starting MSRP ranges from $26,525 for the most basic LE trim to $37,575 for the highest-level Hybrid Limited trim. If most features of the model carry over to next year, the pricing will probably remain about the same. Toyota will also likely maintain a wide range of trim and price options so consumers can choose between more affordable and more luxurious alternatives. Is the 2023 RAV4 the Right SUV for You? As you can see, the newest RAV4 will probably retain the best features of the 2022 model and gain some special upgrades. The current model is an excellent option if you're seeking a comfortable, sporty ride. For even more fuel efficiency, a hybrid RAV4 is a popular version. 2022 GR86 Toyota

2023 Toyota GR86 vs. Subaru BRZ

The 2023 versions of the Toyota GR86 and the Subaru BRZ are the most impressive in their lines so far. Their features and options make them strong competitors within their class. A deeper comparison is required to determine which comes out on top. We've taken care of the research on that and gathered the information below for your convenience. Engine Cores and Basic Performance Statistics These cars are built for speed and efficiency. Both come with a single-engine core option. The 2023 Toyota GR86 is powered by a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine generating 228 horsepower and 184 ft-lb of torque. According to the driver’s choice, the engine comes connected to the driver's choice of either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic. transmission. This combination takes the 2023 GR86 from zero to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds and grants it a fuel efficiency rating of 21mpg21 mpg in town and 31mpg31 mpg on the open road. That is an impressive efficiency rating combo for such a sporty car. The 2023 Subaru BRZ comes with an extremely similar engine. It has the same displacement, horsepower, and torque stats but makes the run from zero to 60 mph in 6.6 seconds. It's also available with a six-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission. The manual version of this BRZ gets 20mpg20 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. Fine engine tuning makes a considerable difference here, so in this category, the 2023 GR86 comes out on top. Suspension System Comparison These two coupes have very different suspension system configurations. The 2023 Toyota GR86 comes with a unified multi-link strut suspension system. This suspension system greatly reinforces handling responsiveness and ride quality. It’s very good at delivering the sort of sporty driving experience one would expect from an efficient, lightweight coupe like the GR86. The 2023 Subaru BRZ rides on a unified double wishbone strut suspension system. This suspension system puts more emphasis on ease of tuning than handling responsiveness. Expect a very smooth ride feel from it, but a less sporty one than you'd experience with a suspension system like that of the 2023 GR86. Exterior Style and Feature Comparison The body style of the 2023 Toyota GR86 screams classic sports coupe. Its body lines are sleek, its headlights are angular and eye-shaped, and its grille is low set, grated, and black. It’s available in two trim levels: Base and Premium. Its standard exterior features include lightly tinted glass, 17-inch high-performance tires, automatic on and off beam LED headlights with daytime running light components, LED taillights, and variable intermittent windshield wipers. Its exterior options include a fierce-looking lip spoiler, 18-inch sport class tires, and 10-spoke matte black alloy wheels. The body style of the 2023 Subaru BRZ is somewhat similar, but with a less streamlined and more rounded style. Its headlights are rung positioned on the car’s body in such a way that makes them look like they have eyebrows. This coupe is available in the Premiumpremium and Limitedlimited trim levels. Its standard exterior features include 17-inch gray allow wheels, automatic on and off projector-beam LED headlights, LED rear lights, and a lip spoiler. Exterior options on this BRZ include 18-inch summer tires and matte dark gray alloy wheels. Convenience, Comfort, and Entertainment FeatureFeatures Comparison The convenience features of the 2023 Toyota GR86 include a concealed storage bay in the cargo area, a pair of 12-volt DC power outlets, remote keyless entry, a manual tilting and telescoping steering wheel, smart device remote engine start, and cruise control with steering wheel controls. Its comfort features include six-way adjustable sport bucket seats, a leather steering wheel, simulated suede door trim, and dual-zone automatic air conditioning. In addition, a premium eight-speaker Pioneer sound system will make drives even more intense, especially when the amplifier is engaged. The speed-compensated volume control system ensures that the roar of the engine doesn't overcome the music. This GR86 comes with an eight-inch touch touch-screen infotainment system with voice recognition programming, hands-free phone programming, wireless Bluetooth, and wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The 2023 version of the Subaru BRZ comes with comfort features, such as a six-way manually adjustable bucket driver's seat, a four-way manually adjustable passenger's seat, leatherette door accents, a driver's footrest, a leather steering wheel, and a manually tilting and telescoping steering column. Its convenience features include a 12-volt DC power outlet, cruise control, seatback storage pockets, a day-night rear-view mirror, and cargo zone lights. Its entertainment layout includes a six-speaker sound system, a Starlink eight-8-inch infotainment center, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Safety System Cluster Comparison Drivers who love flying down the road in a lightweight and sporty coupe want to be sure of their safety. To this end, Toyota has included an impressive raft of safety features on the 2023 GR86. Its standard safety features include ABS driveline traction control, a special stability control centric track mode, a tire-specific pressure level warning system, a backup camera, solid side impact beams, and dual-stage driver and passenger airbags. The second row also has a set of airbags. One year of Toyota Safety Connect with Emergency SOS access assistance is also standard. The safety features of the 2023 BRZ include a backup camera, first and second-row airbags, a tire-specific low-pressure warning system, ABS driveline traction control, and airbag occupancy sensors. Its safety options include a Starlink safety and security service that requires immediate subscription payment, a lane departure alarm, and rear parking sensors. This is another major section where the 2023 Toyota GR86 outclasses the Subaru BRZ for the 2023 model year, as its safety features are all standard. Both of these coupes have a lot to offer the prospective driver, but the 2023 Toyota GR86 bests the 2023 Subaru BRZ from almost every angle. 2022 Toyota GR86

What's New With The 2023 Toyota GR86

In 2021, Toyota’s debut of the GR86 sports car was greeted with universal approval. The sporty car’s reputation was boosted even further in 2022 when Toyota added more power to the GR86. While Toyota hasn't reinvented the GR86 for 2023, it has added some standard and available upgrades that should, once again, propel this fun-to-drive car to the top of its class. 2023 Toyota GR86 Trim Levels and Pricing The GR86 comes in two trim levels and one special edition. The base model GR86 starts at a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $27,900 and comes nicely equipped with the Boxer engine and a six-speed manual transmission. You have 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Primacy tires and a dual chrome-tipped exhaust system. Inside, Sport fabric seats provide bolstered comfort with the dual-zone climate control system providing individual temperature control. A six-speaker audio system provides the soundtrack for your drive. A GR86 Premium trim starts at an MSRP of $30,500 and builds off the base model with its 18-inch forged wheels with sticky Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires. For this trim, you find Ultrasuede and leather upholstery on the inside, along with heated seats. Toyota's GR86 Special Edition model boasts signature Solar Shift Orange exterior paint with black C-pillar graphics, 18-inch matte black wheels, and black cat-back dual exhaust tips. Toyota plans to build 860 units with a mid-$30,000 expected MSRP. Toyota GR86 Performance For the GR86, the GR stands for Gazoo Racing, Toyota's global racing division. The performance of the GR86 starts with the powerful Boxer engine, a 2.4-liter flat-four-cylinder design with a standard six-speed manual transmission. This powertrain puts out 228 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque, clocking a zero to 60 mph time of 6.1 seconds. With this pairing, you also get 20 mpg driving around town and 27 mpg on the freeway. Toyota offers an automatic transmission with steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters and dynamic rev management technology as an option with a slightly improved economy. The automatic powertrain rates at 21 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. However, this version comes in a little slower, with a zero to 60 mph time of 6.6 seconds. The engineers designed the cat-back exhaust system with high-grade corrosion-resistant materials featuring mandrel bends for smoother airflow. As a result, the GR86 engine performs better and provides a distinctive growl. In addition, the Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) system offers adjustability. You can keep it in Full-On mode and let the VSC do the work. Or, you can select Track Mode, which dials your steering and suspension in high-performance situations. The last option, Full-Off mode, allows you complete control. Toyota installed functional air vents in the front fenders that channel airflow, enhancing control and performance. A track-tuned suspension system uses a Torsion limited-slip differential and a multi-link rear suspension system for impressive stability and acceleration. The rear-wheel-drive setup and perfect weight distribution deliver optimal in-and-out cornering speed. In addition, the GR86 engine sits lower in the high-strength steel and aluminum unibody construction, lowering its center of gravity for improved handling and stability. Toyota GR86 Design Every design detail shows off the GR86's race-ready capability. A long aerodynamic hood and short rear deck give the GR86 a sleek profile. The 18-inch alloy wheels feature 10 spokes modeled after the Japanese sword, adding to its dominant style. Slipping inside the cockpit, you find soft touch points and premium materials for a more refined look and feel. The marginal increase in price for the Premium trim adds the heated leather seats, a leather-wrapped shift knob and steering wheel, and a leather-wrapped brake lever. Turbine-shaped air vents, aluminum race pedals, silver-finished toggle switches, and the driver-focused dash enhance the cockpit effect. In addition, you can switch views on the driver information screen to display normal, sport, and track driving data tailored to your situation. And, your rear seat folds down for more cargo space. Toyota GR86 Technology Remote keyless entry gets you inside with the key fob in your pocket, and push-button start technology gets your GR86 fired up. An 8-inch touch screen operates your infotainment system featuring Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth technology preloaded. A six-speaker audio system comes with the base model and an eight-speaker system in the Premium trim. Additionally, you can opt for a 10-inch, 200-watt subwoofer and crank up the bass. Every model comes with a free trial of Toyota's Connected Services. These services enable remote lock/unlock and engine start, plus Toyota Safety Connect and an Emergency Roadside Assistance button for enhanced benefit. GR86 models equipped with the automatic transmission come with a suite of driver-assist systems designed to elevate your driving experience and keep you safer. The suite includes Pre-Collision Braking, which adds emergency brake support when activated. An Adaptive Cruise Control system enhances your cruise control by keeping you at a preset speed and distance, automatically changing speed in traffic. The Lane Departure Warning with Sway Alert system tracks your GR86 when traveling within marked lanes. If the system detects an unintentional drift from your lane, it alerts you so you can take corrective action. In addition, this system alerts you when your GR86 starts to sway from its intended path. The Rear Parking Sonar with Reverse Automatic Braking system detects and alerts you to vehicles or other obstacles behind you when traveling in reverse. If you fail to react, the system’s brakes do it for you. Available safety systems include Blind-Spot Detection, which alerts you to vehicles entering your blind zones to either side. These alerts will help you change lanes safely. Every model features an all-LED lighting system. You can upgrade to an Adaptive Front Lighting system that turns your headlights in the direction of your vehicle, enabling you to see better around corners. At Koons Tysons Toyota, we understand what driving enthusiasts want in a coupe. As a result, we stock an expansive inventory of GR86 models loaded with all the features you crave at competitive prices. Toyota Smart Key

Everything You Need to Know about Toyota's Smart Key System

Toyota's great range of cars, family-friendly SUVs, and powerful trucks have always been at the cutting edge of new technologies aimed at making your driving experience easier. That's the basic idea behind Toyota's Smart Key system, which allows you to use your key fob to open your vehicle and access push-button start. Here's a look at how it works. How Toyota's Smart Key System Works The key fob is designed to replace your traditional key for your Toyota vehicle. If you're carrying it in your pocket, you'll notice that courtesy lights are automatically activated as you approach your Toyota. When this happens, all you need to do is touch the door handle to open the driver's or passenger's door. This clever feature will come in especially handy if you've got an armful of groceries or other bulky items to carry. Toyota liftgates are also programmed to work with your key fob. All you need to do is press and hold the trunk or liftgate button on your key fob to open up your vehicle from the rear. Then, tap the button located right above the license plate. You can also remotely lock or unlock your doors using the buttons on your fob. If your doors are unlocked, press the Lock button once to lock them. When you're ready to unlock your vehicle, press the Lock button once to unlock the driver's door or twice to unlock the passenger's door. As a security mechanism, the door will automatically lock again after 60 seconds if it hasn't been opened. If you find yourself in an emergency, you can also activate your car's alarm with your fob. All you need to do is press down on the Alarm button until your vehicle's alarm starts to sound. In case you're worried about your key fob battery dying or any other technical problems cropping up, you'll be happy to hear that a standard mechanical key is built into your fob in case of emergencies. To access it, look for the small button at the bottom of your fob to release the metal key. Once you've removed the key, you can pry open your fob to replace the dead battery. Using Your Key Fob With Push-Button Start The great advantage with push-button start is that you can get your vehicle going without having to put your key in the ignition and turn it. Just make sure your key fob is in your pocket, push down on the brake, and press the Start/Stop button to get the engine going. Once you've reached your destination, all you need to do is place your Toyota in Park mode and push the button to shut the engine off. You can also use push-button start to activate your vehicle's features without turning on your engine, which is an effective way to save on fuel costs. If you want to turn on the radio or check something on your infotainment screen, just tap the Start/Stop button once without pressing down on the brake pedal. Touching the button for a second time activates your Toyota's air conditioning system, which you're sure to find helpful on bright and hot summer days. Pressing the button a third time shuts off your vehicle's power entirely. How To Remote Start Your Toyota With Your Key Fob If you want to remote start your vehicle using your key fob, you'll first need to make sure that you've downloaded and activated the Remote Connect app. To do this, go to your phone's app store, download the app, and register using your Toyota owner's account. You should then receive an activation code to your email address. Follow the instructions to enter your code on your vehicle's infotainment screen to complete Remote Connect activation. To remote start your vehicle using your fob, press the Lock button twice within one second. Then, press the Lock button a third time and hold it for three seconds. This feature will prove useful if you want to warm up your car before you get in during the winter or cool it down before you get behind the wheel on a hot day. Other Remote Connect Features Remote Connect offers you a broader selection of helpful features that you can access through your phone or smartwatch. These include remotely locking or unlocking your car, checking how much gas you have in the tank, and getting a location update on where your vehicle is. Another great feature available through Remote Connect is the vehicle status function. This allows you to check remotely if your doors, trunk, and windows are closed, among other things. Reston Burger

5 Reston Burgers That Are Better Than a Big Mac

We get it. There's something magical about the special sauce, double patty, and sweet sesame bun of the classic Big Mac sandwich. And maybe in other parts of the world, the Big Mac is the standard for a good burger. But here in Reston, Virginia, we want to challenge the belief that a good burger only exists at the end of a big chain's too-long drive-thru line. In fact, we've compiled a list of the best burgers in the area to prove it. Here are some local favorites that will leave your taste buds singing and those golden arches firmly in the rear-view mirror. Red's Table First on the list is the dry-aged burger from Red's Table. This sandwich is teeming with flavor and comes with cheddar cheese, caramelized onions, and bread and butter pickles. There are a ton of other great menu options too, if you want a break from your traditional burger. Vegetarians looking for a savory option can try the mushroom and rolled oat burger. It's served with whole-grain mustard aoli, caramelized onions, and Swiss cheese. Find both these menu options at either lunch or dinner at Red's Table. Three local brothers own Red's Table, and they grew up going to the South Lakes Village Center. Now, owning a restaurant in the same space that represents so many great childhood memories is a dream come true for the brothers. You can certainly taste their passion and devotion to their community in their food offerings. Matthew, Patrick, and Ryan Tracy worked hard to create an atmosphere that was welcoming and appropriate for every occasion, be it a birthday party, anniversary celebration, casual hangout, or work event. They certainly succeeded. You can visit Red's Table 11 a.m. to midnight seven days a week. You can make a reservation for the restaurant's front patio seating online, but the back patio is first come, first served. Ted's Bulletin Next on the list is Ted's Bulletin. This restaurant takes an innovative and contemporary approach to traditional American cuisine. Breakfast lovers will enjoy the all-day breakfast, and those wanting an out of this world burger can try the Ted's Burger. Feeling adventurous? There are many creative and fun menu options to explore. Take, for example, the spot's Peanut Butter Bacon Burger. This burger has tomato jam for an interesting fusion of burger and peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Visit for happy hour and try the bacon cheeseburger empanada with a fresh cocktail to wash it down. Ted's Bulletin offers five Virginia and Washington D.C. locations, so you can enjoy their daring and inventive menu items wherever you are. They feature open and spacious dining rooms and have great breakfast and brunch offerings. You can even make your reservation easily online if you're worried about finding a spot at an open table. This spot is popular, so be sure to make your reservation or arrive early to get a great seat. That said, you can always enjoy a more casual conversation and dining experience with the restaurant's bar seating. Ted's is open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Jackson's Mighty Fine Food and Lucky Lounge Visit Jackson's Mighty Fine Food and Lucky Lounge for a dining experience that includes a little of everything. The bacon cheeseburger with pecan smoked bacon will have your mouth watering, but they have plenty of other incredible menu options, too. We're especially fans of the lounge's lobster rolls. Made with fresh Maine lobsters, these buttery rolls will have you coming back again and again. The lunch and dinner fare at Jackson's is eclectic, but all of it is equally delicious. Jackson's Might Fine Food and Lucky Lounge isn't just a great place because of its food. The restaurant is also an important part of our community. By partnering with The Great American Community Kitchen, Jackson's is able to provide much needed food, nourishment, and support to those who are experiencing food insecurity within the community. With their neon accents, 1940s decor, and dim lighting, you'll see why so many frequent the American eatery often. The restaurant is open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Monday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 11 p.m. to 12 a.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday. The Buffalo Wing Factory Though typically known for their wings, The Buffalo Wing Factory makes a pretty incredible burger too. Pair your lunch or dinner with scratch cocktails and a refreshing beer for ultimate enjoyment. Try the Chipotle Smashburger, served with chipotle mayo, avocado, and pepper jack cheese. It's really hard to go wrong with a menu as great as The Buffalo Wing Factory's. For a starter, be sure to sample the firecracker cauliflower. It's veggies the way you've never had them before. The restaurant is an icon of Northern Virginia, and since its beginning in the mid-1990s, it's been able to expand into four other area locations. Be sure to check out some of the spot's other top locations for even more great flavor offerings and drinks. The Reston Buffalo Wing Factory is open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. Willard's Real Pit BBQ Though not your typical burger, we'd be remiss if we didn't list Willard's Real Pit BBQ's Double Trouble sandwich on this list. Experience the spot's incredible pulled chicken and hot sausage in a glorious union of juices and flavors. Coleslaw, pickles, and honey barbecue sauce take this sandwich to the next level. Located conveniently by Reston's The Home Depot Center, this is a great place to fuel up for your next big project. You can visit Willard's 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday. Reston has so many great burgers, there's no reason to rely on a big chain burger to satisfy your cravings. Is there a burger spot in town we forgot to list? If so, let us know.
