Should I Buy a Hybrid, Electric, or Gas Car?

As technology develops, gas-powered cars are starting to be overtaken by electric and hybrid options for the same vehicles. Many manufacturers started producing hybrids and electric vehicles (EVs) as a response to fluctuations in gas prices and rising demand from consumers. With so many options available, many people wonder what the pros and cons of each vehicle type are. Keep reading to learn about the differences between gas, electric, and hybrid vehicles. Gas-Powered Vehicles Gas-powered vehicles were the first to see widespread use in most parts of the world. At their inception, gas was relatively available and allowed for more power and longer driving distances than other options. Now, as the price of gas fluctuates in response to world events there are some pros and cons to choosing a gas-powered vehicle. Pros One of the reasons gas-powered engines continue to see widespread use is that they provide the power and performance people need to drive effectively. This is especially true in rural areas, where access to charging stations can be very low or completely nonexistent. Another reason these vehicles are still popular is that they have lower prices than either electric vehicles or hybrids since the technology is relatively old. Another pro of gas-powered vehicles is that maintenance costs are relatively low compared to EVs and locations that can provide these services are plentiful. An average gas-powered vehicle can also go around 300-400 miles on a single tank of gas, making them have excellent long-range driving capabilities. Finally, gas-powered vehicles have better torque and can haul trailers and other large cargo more easily than EVs and hybrids. Cons Gas-powered vehicles also have some cons. They contribute to pollution with their emissions, something many countries and companies are starting to pay more attention to. With more attention, there's more focus on creating low emissions. Another con of gas-powered vehicles is that they use a non-renewable resource for fuel. At some point in the future, gas won't be widely available. As the scarcity of this resource decreases, the price of gas will increase making it more and more expensive to fuel gas-powered vehicles effectively. Once the resource is completely gone, these vehicles won't function. Electric Vehicles EVs are a growing source of transportation for people around the world. As they become more popular, the technology they use becomes better and more efficient, giving them longer ranges better batteries and more locations to recharge. Like gas-powered vehicles, EVs have pros and cons you should consider when researching your next vehicle. Pros There are several pros to buying an EV. First, they are convenient since you can plug them in at your home and charge them easily, without leaving. Second, these vehicles have zero emissions when you drive them so they're much better for the environment than their gas-powered counterparts. Third, they don't require oil and often need a lot less regular maintenance than a gas-powered vehicle since there aren't as many moving parts subject to wear and tear. Another reason you may want to get an EV is that you can sell a used EV for a much higher price point than a used gas-powered vehicle. Further, the vehicles are relatively quiet while on the road, reducing noise pollution in areas such as cities and on highways that pass suburban areas. EVs cost less over time than gas-powered vehicles, since electricity is cheaper per mile than gas. Cons Like gas-powered vehicles, there are several cons to purchasing an EV. First, EVs are more expensive initially than gas-powered vehicles since they're rarer and still developing. Second, EVs have a much shorter driving range than gas-powered vehicles, averaging between 60 and 120 miles on a full charge, though this is increasing with each new model year. Third, EVs can take a long time to charge, depending on the make and model. For example, they may take between 4 hours to upwards of 8 hours to charge completely. While traveling, EVs are harder to recharge, as charging stations are much rarer than gas stations, especially in rural areas. Additionally, when you do need to repair the vehicle or replace parts, there are fewer technicians who can work on EVs and they're more expensive to replace. Finally, EVs are often smaller than gas-powered vehicles, so they can fit fewer passengers. Hybrid Vehicles Hybrid vehicles are a combination of gas-powered vehicles and EVs. They often have many of the benefits of both types but also suffer some of the drawbacks of both types as well. Pros Since hybrids contain both gas-powered engines and electric motors and technologies, they often extend the maximum range of the vehicle, beating both EVs and conventional combustion vehicles for how far they can drive on a single charge and tank of fuel. Since they have longer ranges, you can save money on fuel with fewer trips to the gas station. Further, they have fewer emissions than gas-powered vehicles and more than EVs. Like EVs, hybrid vehicles can have a higher resale value because of their longevity and electric motors. Unlike EVs, you don't have to charge a hybrid, so you can save time when fueling your vehicle, though you don't have the convenience of charging your hybrid at home. Cons While hybrid vehicles have many pros, they also have some cons. First, they often cost more than gas-powered vehicles for the same reasons EVs cost more. Second, repairs can cost a lot because the technology the vehicles use is newer and needs the attention of a specialist. Hybrids also aren't the best at towing or accelerating because they don't have the full capability of either gas-powered vehicles or EVs. Finally, hybrids require regular maintenance like gas-powered vehicles. Now that you've learned about the pros and cons of gas, electric, and hybrid vehicles, you can purchase your next vehicle with the full knowledge of each. At Koons Toyota Tysons, you can find an inventory of new vehicles to look through. You can also find ways to finance your next vehicle purchase or get service for your current Toyota vehicle. Everything You Need To Know About The 2023 Toyota RAV4

The Toyota RAV4 has been around for almost 30 years now, and it continues to be one of the most popular vehicles in the entire Toyota lineup each year. People appreciate both the practicality and the efficiency of every new release of the RAV4. The 2023 model is going to continue this tradition by providing you with more of the things that you have come to love about this SUV while also adding a few new features into the mix to help make the 2023 Toyota RAV4 the best one ever created. The team at Koons Tysons Toyota have put together this guide to help you learn more about the 2023 Toyota RAV4. Trims Over the years, Toyota has expanded the number of trims it offers for the RAV4 to make sure that there's something for everyone. Whether you're looking for a reliable SUV that you can use for your work commute in and around Vienna, Virginia, or a more heavy-duty SUV that you can take on off-roading adventures, Toyota has you covered. The trims available for the 2023 Toyota RAV4 include the following: LE. XLE. XLE Premium. Adventure. Limited. TRD Off-Road. The XLE Premium might prove to be the best choice for many people, as it offers a wide range of excellent standard features that include 19-inch wheels, faux-leather upholstery, a power liftgate, and more. But you can't go wrong with any of the 2023 Toyota RAV4 trims. It's all about finding which one complements your lifestyle. Exterior The Toyota RAV4 has always had a sporty and fun look, and that remains the same with the 2023 edition. But the latest incarnation also has a ruggedness to it that hasn't always been found in previous RAV4 models. The higher-level trims look exceptionally rugged, which makes sense when you consider that they're designed for off-roading. There are also a lot of optional features that you can add to the 2023 Toyota RAV4’s exterior, including running boards, door sill protectors, and mudguards, so you can customize your SUV to your liking. Engine No matter which Toyota RAV4 trim you decide to invest in, you'll get access to the same great engine. The 2023 model comes standard with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that can produce up to 203 horsepower. It pairs nicely with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and you'll get to choose either the standard front-wheel-drive system or an optional all-wheel-drive system. When it comes to fuel economy, the 2023 Toyota RAV4 gives you about 27 mpg when driving around the city and 35 mpg when cruising on Virginia highways. Interior The practicality of the Toyota RAV4 really stands out on the interior of the 2023 model. Although some of the lower-end trims have only the basics, such as cloth seats, the middle and top trims step it up a notch. As you explore the different trims, you'll find lots of great options, including a leather-wrapped steering wheel and a dashboard that's both stitched and padded to make it stand out. In the back, the rear seats are amazingly easy to stow away, and doing so will provide you with plenty of cargo space. Under normal circumstances, you'll get about 37 cubic feet of room in the back, but you can bump that all the way up to 69 cubic feet of cargo space once the rear seating is stowed. This will give you ample room for sports equipment or luggage for weekends away. Technology You won't notice too many differences between the 2022 Toyota RAV4 and the 2023 Toyota RAV4 on the inside, but one significant change comes in the form of a larger infotainment system screen. The 2022 Toyota RAV4 only had a 7-inch screen in it, whereas the 2023 model now comes standard with an 8-inch screen. You'll also have the option to increase this to a 10.5-inch screen in some of the top trims. Each of these screens comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability so you can connect your device for music or navigation. You'll also have the chance to incorporate other optional tech features into the mix inside a 2023 Toyota RAV4. These include a JBL premium audio system, a navigation system, and even a wireless charging pad for your phone so you can power up without any annoying cables. Safety Safety is something that Toyota has taken seriously for a long time now, so it shouldn't come as any surprise to see that the 2023 Toyota RAV4 comes with its fair share of standard safety features. You'll get immediate access to technologies that include automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection and lane departure warning with lane-keep assist. It even comes standard with adaptive cruise control, which is only an optional safety feature in many of the RAV4's closest competitors. MSRP Even with all of the many features found in the 2023 Toyota RAV4, one of the things people will like most about the latest model, as they did with the previous versions, is that it isn't going to break the bank. The 2023 Toyota RAV4 starts at a mere $29,310, and even if you decide to go all out with the highest trim, the TRD Off-Road will only set you back $38,930. This is a relatively small price to pay for one of the most well-respected SUVs out on the road today. Test-Drive a 2023 Toyota RAV4 Today The RAV4 might go down as one of the most successful Toyota vehicles of all time. But that doesn't mean that Toyota will take its foot off the gas pedal anytime soon when it comes to improving the RAV4. This automaker shows this once again with the release of the 2023 Toyota RAV4. It's yet another step in the right direction for the RAV4, and it's sure to be one of the most popular SUVs released by any automaker for the 2023 model year. Would you like to take a 2023 Toyota RAV4 out on the open road to see what it can do? Koons Toyota of Tysons invites you to schedule a test drive in a 2023 Toyota RAV4 today. 2023 Toyota Sequoia

2023 Toyota Sequoia's Spacious Interior to Carry a Family

For the first time in 14 years, Toyota has given the Sequoia a full redesign. The three-row, full-size SUV is appearing in its third generation for 2023 with an all-new powertrain and revamped interior. The powertrain is a hybrid setup that combines a V-6 engine with an electric motor. Our Toyota experts here at Koons Tysons have put together some of the highlights of the modernized interior to give you a taste of what's to come. Seating and Cargo Storage Like its predecessor, the 2023 Sequoia is a three-row SUV that can seat up to eight people. The seating capacity drops to seven if you add the optional captain's chairs in the second row. Both the second and third rows are suitable for adult passengers, thanks to the large quantity of legroom. One new feature in the 2023 Sequoia is the sliding third row. It allows you to move the third row backward or forward by up to 6 inches. This adjustable row allows you to open up more legroom or more cargo storage space, depending on your requirements. The cargo area also boasts adjustable storage shelves to help you get the most out of the space. Toyota hasn't yet released the exact dimensions of the cargo area, but they're likely to be among some of the best in the class. The Sequoia is built on the same platform as the Tundra full-size pickup, which indicates that there will be plenty of room at the rear. In the previous generation, the Sequoia had about 19 cubic feet behind the rear row and a maximum cargo-carrying capacity of 120 cubic feet with both rear rows folded flat. The New Capstone Trim Toyota has added the Capstone trim to the top of the trim ladder for the third-generation Sequoia. The Capstone trim features a luxurious interior, providing you with all the comfort and upscale materials you could wish for. The Capstone's upholstery is white-over-black semi-aniline leather. This is the same quality of material used by Toyota in some of its premium vehicles, such as the Lexus LS. The Capstone also gets open-pore walnut wood finishings on the dashboard and acoustic glass on the front doors to help reduce outside noise when you're traveling on the highway. Other Sequoia Trims There are four other trims for the 2023 Sequoia: the SR5, Limited, Platinum, and TRD Pro. Each has different interior features and upgrade options. The base SR5 trim is fitted with cloth upholstery and comes standard with heated front seats. As you move up through the Limited and Platinum trims, you gain access to a heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated front and rear seats, and second-row sunshades. A panoramic sunroof and hands-free liftgate add an eye-catching feature and even more convenience to the cabin of this three-row SUV. The Limited trim includes the power-sliding third row. The TRD Pro trim is the one to go for if you plan on doing a lot of off-roading. It includes all of the technology and design features you'll need to tackle rough terrain with ease. Infotainment Technology The Sequoia's infotainment system is led by an 8-inch screen in the base SR5 trim. However, a huge 14-inch screen is available with the optional Premium package in the base trim and comes standard in all other trims in the lineup. The Toyota Audio Multimedia system is equipped with a wide variety of exciting features. You can connect two devices at the same time via Bluetooth, stay on top of your messages and news reports while you're on the go thanks to a wireless hot spot, and get directions from the built-in navigation system. With Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, you can link your smartphone to the Sequoia's infotainment system. Linking your phone allows you to easily use your favorite apps, stream music from your phone, and do much more. Toyota has also equipped the redesigned Sequoia with wireless device charging, so you can ensure your phone has a full battery wherever you are. The head-up display allows you to monitor your SUV's performance without taking your eyes off the road ahead. Driver Safety Features The 2023 Sequoia's long list of driver safety features is part of the Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 system. The advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) contained within Safety Sense 2.5 range from features to help you park more safely to technology that makes highway driving a more straightforward experience. One of these features is the Level 2 semi-autonomous highway driving system, which consists of adaptive cruise control and lane centering assistance. Adaptive cruise control can adjust your speed to ensure that you maintain a safe and constant distance from motorists up ahead. However, keep in mind that the semi-autonomous driving system does still require you to keep your hands on the wheel at all times. Safety Sense 2.5 also features pedestrian detection during daytime and low-light driving, cyclist detection, and automatic emergency braking. All of these features work together to help you avoid collisions or accidents. An intersection assist feature watches for oncoming traffic and pedestrians when you're turning and can brake the SUV to avoid a collision. Another useful safety feature is the surround-view parking camera. Thanks to the 360-degree aerial view of the Sequoia you'll see on your screen, parking this large SUV is much easier. Many sites and exhibits throughout the city make it a history buff’s dream come true. The team at Koons Tysons Toyota invites you to explore six essential Alexandria experiences for history buffs. George Washington’s Mount Vernon George Washington’s Mount Vernon is his former estate, which was once the central hub in Alexandria for productivity and commerce. It’s now a museum that displays memorabilia and documents that once belonged to some key figures in American history. Visitors can stroll the carefully preserved grounds and view the sites of George Washington’s gardens, farm, and final resting place. Touring George Washington’s Mount Vernon gives visitors a unique perspective of Alexandria and our first president’s part in shaping America. George Washington’s Mount Vernon is located at 3200 Mount Vernon Memorial Highway in Mount Vernon. Freedom House Museum Freedom House Museum explores the experiences of enslaved and freed Blacks who lived in the area and were trafficked through Alexandria. The museum site was once a complex that trafficked Black men and women and is now home to three new exhibitions delving into Alexandria’s Black history and the American Black experience. The museum also features stories from the Civil Rights Movement. The museum’s purpose is to help people learn from a tragic time in history so that they may reflect and work toward change in current times. You can visit the Freedom House Museum at 1315 Duke St. Torpedo Factory Art Center Torpedo Factory is a former World War II munitions factory transformed into 82 artist studios and six galleries. It’s also home to the Alexandria Archaeology Museum. The exhibit Preserving Alexandria’s Maritime History explores the recent excavation of four ships found along the city’s waterfront. You can view a 3D model of one of the ships. The exhibit A Community Digs Its Past: The Lee Street Site is devoted to excavating one city block, focusing on 18th-century wharves and 19th-century residences, taverns, warehouses, shops, and a support complex used during the Civil War as a Union hospital. They also have a variety of changing exhibits that showcase other discoveries. Each 60-minute walking tour covers eight to 10 blocks and is led by an entertaining, experienced, and knowledgeable guide. Another tour explores Alexandria’s African American history. Alexandria has the dubious distinction of being the former home to one of the largest slave markets in America. Notably, it later became home to one of the South’s largest freedmen communities before the Civil War. This tour looks at African American history from slavery to freedom, spanning the years 1749 to 1865. If you like your history on the spooky side, there’s also a Ghost and Graveyard tour. During the tour, you’ll be privy to old ghost stories, unsolved mysteries, folklore, legends, tales of romance, and spine-tingling yarns about angry ghosts looking for revenge. Tours meet at 221 King St. at the corner of King and Fairfax. Alexandria Black History Museum Alexandria Black History Museum encompasses the museum, the Alexandria African American Heritage Park, and the Watson Reading Room. The museum’s mission is to provide enrichment and education for Alexandria’s visitors and residents and to foster understanding and tolerance between cultures. The Alexandria African American Heritage Park is open from dawn to dusk for visitors. The Watson Reading Room has over 3,000 documents on African American history. Another goal of the museum is to further appreciate and understand African Americans’ diverse experiences in Alexandria and the United States. You’ll find the Alexandria Black History Museum at 902 Wythe St. Carlyle House Historic Park Carlyle House Historic Park is the site of an 18th-century mansion, museum, and gardens. Toyota Corolla 2023

2023 Toyota Corolla vs. Corolla Cross

For many years, the Toyota Corolla has been produced and sold all around the world. However, Toyota has taken this familiar car into unexplored territory with the Corolla Cross and now the 2023 Corolla Cross Hybrid. Cross vehicles have the same comfort and performance that drivers are familiar with from the Corolla sedan or hatchback, but in a subcompact SUV design. Beyond their styles, these two models differ in other ways. Koons Tysons Toyota, the top Toyota dealership in Vienna, Virginia, is here to guide you toward the right vehicle. Let's compare the 2023 Toyota Corolla and the 2023 Corolla Cross to learn more about what makes each model unique. Corolla vs. Corolla Cross: Engine and Performance Regardless of whether you're commuting or exploring new cities, the Corolla Cross is prepared with two powertrain options: a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 169 horsepower and a hybrid setup that gets 194 horsepower by adding electric motors to the same engine. Both provide excellent fuel efficiency allowing you to cruise around town or take the scenic route without worrying about wasting gas. The Corolla also has two engine choices: a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 169 horsepower and a hybrid configuration with 138 horsepower. Both Toyota cars offer an optional all-wheel-drive system that improves traction. However, the Corolla Cross is more suitable for off-road driving due to 8.1 inches of ground clearance, rather than 6.7 inches on the regular Corolla. If you're planning to venture over uneven terrain regularly, the Corolla Cross has the advantage in this area. Corolla vs. Corolla Cross: Gas Mileage and Towing The Corolla sedan and its hybrid versions are more efficient than the Cross equivalents, mainly due to their size. The Corolla Hybrid gets up to 52 mpg combined, while the gas-powered Corolla's fuel economy is 35 mpg combined for hatchbacks or sedans. The Corolla Cross Hybrid gets up to 37 mpg combined compared to the gas-powered Corolla Cross's fuel economy of 32 mpg combined. When fitted with the necessary accessories, the 2023 Corolla Cross can pull 1,500 lbs, enough for a modest trailer or camper. No towing information is provided for the 2023 Toyota Corolla as sedans are generally not recommended for that kind of task. Corolla vs. Corolla Cross: Interior Features and Comfort Take a seat inside the Toyota Corolla's cabin; you'll find it comfortable and thoughtfully designed. Both the sedan and hatchback versions have seating for five passengers. There’s an excellent view in all directions, so front and rear passengers can enjoy a scenic route as much as the driver. The sedan's rear seats are surprisingly spacious for adults. The hatchback's second row will fit adults well, but it's generally intended for younger passengers. The regular-body Toyota Corolla comes standard with cloth upholstery and manually adjustable front seats. Synthetic leather upholstery, heated front seats, power-adjustable driver's seat, front seats inspired by racing with larger side bolsters, and a heated steering wheel are available extras. The Corolla Cross brings the same overall five-seat cabin with the same standard and optional features. You may opt to add on heated front seats, a leather-wrapped shift knob, a 10-way power driver's seat, and a flip-down center armrest for rear-seat passengers. Corolla vs. Corolla Cross: Cargo Space The Corolla hatchback offers 17.8 cubic feet of trunk capacity compared to the sedan's 13.1 cubic feet. Depending on whether it has front- or all-wheel drive, the Corolla Cross SUV has 26.5 or 25.2 cubic feet of room behind the back seats. With the second row of seats folded down, those figures increase to 66.8 and 65.5 cubic feet. You can handily haul a family of five and their luggage inside the Corolla Cross. But, the Corolla hatchback has just the right amount of space for smaller families, singles, and couples who'd prefer a more compact design. Corolla vs. Corolla Cross: Infotainment Features An eight-inch touch screen, six-speaker audio system, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and wireless Bluetooth are all standard on 2023 Corolla and Corolla Cross models. Be sure to take advantage of a free three-month Platinum Plan trial membership of SiriusXM, found on most new Toyota vehicles. For customers who want to take things up a notch, there are upgrades available, including a nine-speaker JBL Premium Audio system and wireless charging, in addition to Toyota's Service Connect, Drive Connect, Wi-Fi Connect, and Remote Connect suite of features. Corolla vs. Corolla Cross: Safety Features Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is included as a standard feature on both vehicles. This gives you access to many of the latest driver assistant aids, such as automatic high beams, road sign assist, dynamic radar cruise control, lane-tracing assist, lane departure alert with steer assist, and a pre-collision mitigation system with pedestrian detection. In addition, a tire pressure monitor system and hill-start assist control are also included. All model versions of the Corolla Cross have a standard rear-seat reminder with latch lower anchors for the rear seats. Other notable safety features include a collapsible steering column, crumple zones, side-impact door beams, an anti-theft system with an engine immobilizer, nine advanced multi-stage airbags, and a backup camera. The Corolla Cross and Corolla both received the maximum 5-Star overall rating from crash tests performed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The Corolla, specifically, earned a Top Safety Pick+ designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, but both are nearly identical in terms of safety. Corolla vs. Corolla Cross: Buyer Preference It's impossible to declare a clear winner between these two excellent Toyota models. The 2023 Corolla is valued for its efficiency, affordability, and high-quality range of standard and optional features. The Corolla Cross is similar but stands out more for its hybrid performance, extra space, towing potential, and off-road ability. If you'd prefer extra legroom and crave a thrilling performance, you'd likely enjoy the Cross or its hybrid model more than a standard Corolla. In either case, both vehicles cover all the bases with practical standard features and offer great savings, with or without a Toyota hybrid engine. It takes a test drive or two to find something that fits your lifestyle and budget. So consider what benefits you value the most, and be sure to bookmark and browse our inventory. The next time you visit, you'll know which version of Toyota's popular Corolla series is on your must-buy list. Koons Tysons Toyota also has the best new Toyota specials, so be sure to check our website for the best deals on the Corolla and Corolla Cross.

Virginia Day Trip

Plan a Day Trip to Virginia

Have you been thinking about a fun day trip to Virginia? The southeastern state spans from the Chesapeake Bay to the Appalachian Mountains. As one of the 13 original colonies, it’s filled with historic landmarks and living history museums. Virginia also boasts incredible landscapes and outdoor activities along the Atlantic coast. Here's a list of five ideas to help you plan a day trip in the Virginia area. Luray Caverns A popular tourist attraction in Virginia is the Luray Caverns in the Shenandoah Valley. Discovered in 1878, it's the largest cave system in the eastern United States. Do you want to walk down into the depths of an underground cavern? The paved walkways are lit for your safe enjoyment. You don't want to miss the fabulous rock formations. Guided tours take you through natural wonders in cathedral-sized rooms with 10-story ceilings. These caverns earn their moniker as Geology's Hall of Fame. Experience the awesomeness of bright stalactites and crystal-clear pools of water. Make a plan to get your tickets in advance or schedule some flex time due to availability. Children under 6 are eligible for free admission. The temperature in the caverns is a consistent 54 degrees with very high humidity, which makes it feel like 65 degrees. Some visitors prefer to wear a light jacket while touring the caverns, and remember to wear comfortable walking shoes. Other attractions, such as the Car & Carriage Caravan Museum, Toy Town Junction, and the Shenandoah Heritage Village, are included with the daily admission. Location: 101 Cave Hill Road, Luray. The Poe Museum About two and a half hours away from the caverns is The Poe Museum. The renowned writer Edgar Allan Poe once resided in Richmond, Virginia, and the museum is a testament to his life and works. As expected, many other museums dedicated to Poe exist. The Richmond site, however, has the most extensive collection of his artifacts worldwide. It’s in the Old Stone House, the longest-standing residential building in Richmond. Poe's clothing, personal letters, and childhood bed are on display. You can also see The Cornwell Daguerreotype, a famous image of Poe taken four days after a suicide attempt. On the grounds, you’ll find the Enchanted Garden, inspired by Poe's poem, “To One in Paradise.” It features a fountain, shrine, and several landscape pieces reflective of Poe's writing. Look for the rock inscribed with a character's name from "A Tale of The Ragged Mountains" and a brick wall like the one in "William Wilson." The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday and closed for some holidays. Location: 1914 E. Main St., Richmond. Busch Gardens Drive approximately an hour east of the museum to visit Busch Gardens in Williamsburg. This family-friendly amusement park is ideal for thrill seekers. Unlike other Busch Gardens parks in the United States, this locale has a European theme. Walking from attraction to attraction, you'll get a sense of being among cozy European villages. In addition to roller coasters and leisure rides, the park has animal exhibits and live entertainment shows. Beer bottling company, Anheuser-Busch, owns the park, so alcoholic beverages are available for adults all day. Check the park's website for hours of operation and admission discounts. If you're taking your day trip during the summer, the facility also houses Water Country USA, an outdoor water park equipped with slides and pools. Location: 1 Busch Gardens Blvd., Williamsburg. Colonial Williamsburg Visitor Center The Colonial Williamsburg Visitor Center is about 15 minutes from Busch Gardens. It's the world's largest living history museum. With over 300 acres featuring iconic sites, you can learn about America's earliest times. You’ll explore original buildings and recreations of the 17th and 18th centuries. Get a kick out of actors dressed in traditional clothing demonstrating blacksmithing, weaving, brickmaking, and other bygone trades. Visit the two art museums, enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride, eat at one of the historic taverns, and shop for handcrafted pieces. Kids of all ages will revel in learning about colonial times in such an interactive way. They can even download the Colonial Williamsburg Explorer app to discover more amenities. The Governor's Palace is one of the must-see buildings in Colonial Williamsburg, built in the early 1700s. A fire destroyed the main building in 1781, but it was rebuilt in the 1930s. The palace was the home of the Royal Governors of the Colony of Virginia. They included Thomas Jefferson and Patrick Henry. Take a tour of the lavish establishment that held many extravagant parties. Historic furnishings, weapons, and cooking demonstrations await your eager attention. The center is open daily for visitors. We recommend that you wear comfortable walking shoes due to the expansive size. Location: 101 Visitor Center Drive, Williamsburg. Virginia Beach Boardwalk Transport yourself back to the present by driving an hour southeast to Virginia Beach. This is where the Chesapeake Bay meets the Atlantic Ocean. At the Virginia Beach Boardwalk, you're right in the center of lots of eclectic activity. The boardwalk itself is 3 miles long and 28 feet wide. You won't be able to get enough of the surrounding savory restaurants, family-friendly attractions, and amazing views of the Atlantic. Surfing, cycling, rollerblading, sunbathing, and more are all on the menu. JT's Grommet Island Park is a 15,000-square-foot beach playground with wheelchair-accessible entrances. It has raised sandcastle building tables at an accessible height, a sensory board for autistic and visually impaired children, and a swaying boat. Everyone is welcome there. The Atlantic Wildfowl Heritage Museum and Virginia Beach Surf & Rescue Museum are two more boardwalk spots that appeal to history buffs. Many of the side streets that lead to Atlantic Avenue showcase nautical sculptures. However, the ultimate sculpture is King Neptune. Be sure to get a selfie with the famous 24-foot, 12-ton bronze statue at the entrance to Neptune Festival Park on 31st Street. Maximize your day trip time by staying at one of the dozens of hotels that line the boardwalk. Location: 2100 Parks Ave., Virginia Beach. Holiday Events and Activities To Do with Friends and Family in Arlington

As the weather begins to turn and our minds begin to fill with thoughts of the upcoming holiday season, it's time for families to find things to do. If you’re interested in taking in the beauty of Arlington, there are several events and activities for everyone to enjoy. The following locations, filled with sights of snow mixed with holiday decorations, are sure to bring a smile to everyone's face. Ice Skating Bring your friends and family to the rink at Pentagon Row, whether you are lacing up your skates for the first time or following an annual tradition. You can take the metro to Pentagon City, but ensure you cover your blades for the ride. You’ll find this rink at 1201 S. Joyce St. in Arlington. Make sure you bundle up to spend time on this outdoor rink. Decorated with festive holiday decor, the rink’s ready to host skaters of all ages and abilities. You can even rent skates before enjoying the rink seven days a week. As you rest between sessions on the ice, gather around the large stone fireplace to warm up and loosen tired muscles. Once rested, spend some more time on northern Virginia's largest outdoor skating rink. Tree Lighting Ceremonies Now, days after Thanksgiving, it's time to start lighting Christmas trees in the area. On Dec. 1 at 6:30 p.m., the Village at Shirlington shopping complex invites the public to a free celebration. This event will include cartridge rides, selfies with Santa, music, and entertainment. There will also be a chance to find unique Christmas presents at a Maker's Market. A week later, on Dec. 8, the lights turn on in Roslyn with a free celebration from 5 to 8 p.m. This event will include music and various prize opportunities. There will also be beer, wine, and spirit sales for the adults attending the festivities. If you can’t make the event in person, it will be live-streamed on the internet. The following few days will give you time to enjoy the celebration at the Central Place Plaza located at 1800 N. Lynn St. Make Your New Wreath Slow down and enjoy holiday music while gathering with friends and family to make brand-new Christmas decorations. On Saturday, Dec. 10, there’s a wreath-making workshop scheduled at the Long Branch Nature Center. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A $40 registration fee lets the participants enjoy the festivities while getting basic instructions on creating some festive laurel. You’ll have all your materials provided, enough to allow each person to bring home two wreaths at the end of the day. Feel free to bring personal decorations for the wreaths and a pair of wire cutters. Family Memories with Santa The big man from the North Pole makes several stops in and around the Arlington area throughout December. If you want to shop before or after meeting Santa, head to the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City. Santa is making his southern home there from Nov. 28 to Dec. 11. If you have a family member with special needs, Santa is looking forward to meeting them. He’s set aside a special day to show his even softer side on Sunday, Dec. 4. Sunday, Dec. 11, is the time to bring your furry family to meet Santa Paws for pet photos. Bring your smiles and unique outfits, as this will be an excellent time to take the ultimate Christmas card picture. You can make a reservation so all your family members are comfortable meeting him in a quieter, calmer area than the regular meet and greet. Bring Your Singing Voices Gather your friends and family in Arlington on Saturday, Dec. 10, to enjoy a sing-along with the National Chamber Ensemble. The concert is at the Unitarian Universalist Church at 4444 Arlington Blvd. and starts at 7:30 p.m. The performance space's acoustics means you will hear every note from anywhere in the building. While you’ll need tickets for the event, you’ll also be going home with a recorded copy of the night to enjoy for years to come at home. Just across the river in Washington, DC, the DAR Constitution Hall is hosting the US Navy Band's annual Christmas concert at 1776 D St. NW. Remember that you’ll need tickets for this event, but you can buy them online before the show. There’ll be three shows scheduled for everyone to enjoy. On Saturday, Dec. 17, the shows are at 3 and 8 p.m. Not to worry if Saturday’s busy; there’s a final performance scheduled for 3 p.m. on Sunday. These memorable shows were created for families to enjoy with special guests such as Santa. Concertgoers may also want to watch the sky for the special flyover scheduled during the weekend. Wreaths Across America One of the most somber holiday events in Arlington occurs each year at Arlington National Cemetery. On Saturday, Dec. 17, soldiers, scouts, and family members will gather to adorn the cemetery. Community Volunteers are also welcome to help lay wreaths. The event is free but does require registration through the Wreaths Across America Website. It begins between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. If you plan to participate in the event, you can drive and park at the cemetery. If you hold a DOD military ID card, you can park on Joint Base Myers, but limited parking will be available. To avoid parking headaches, you should consider getting there by metro; there are three stops in the area. You can use the Arlington National Cemetery stop but prepare for the crowds if you do. To avoid the bottleneck, you can get off at either the Pentagon or Roslyn stops and walk across Memorial Bridge. Check your gate registration for the best metro option. Once you arrive, remember that you’ll need to enter the grounds through the gate you registered from. Whether you are honoring those who fell in defense of our nation or singing along with classic songs, the Arlington area has something for everyone during the holiday season. Our team at Koons Tysons Toyota has gladly highlighted these events for you, and we genuinely wish you and yours a magical holiday season.
