The 2020 GR Supra: Available Now in Vienna

Set to hit the asphalt soon, the latest iteration of the Supra is bears clear inspiration from its earlier versions, while also remaining a complete individual. While details on the GR Supra are limited, Springfield and Vienna drivers can look forward to three trim versions and futuristic styling. Toyota GR Supra trims include the Launch Edition, 3.0 Premium, and 3.0.

Toyota Supra History

The Supra plods a long and storied history starting all the way back in 1978. From its start as a trim variation of the Celica to its establishment as a solo model in 1986, the Toyota Supra has undergone a slow transformation from casual sporty cruiser to full blown performance vehicle. Leesburg and Vienna drivers looking for a vehicle that puts performance at the forefront can look to the new GR Supra with confidence.

Celica Supra A40

The very first version of the Supra hit the pavement in 1978. The Celica Supra A40 offered Springfield and Chantilly drivers a capable, casual coupe with distinct styling. The two-door Celica Supra A40 featured sloping, angular lines of design and a sporty, yet sharp style. Notable exterior traits include a slightly angled rear roof and rear triangular windows.

Celica Supra A60

Some Vienna and Fairfax drivers might recall the arrival of the Celica Supra A60 in 1982. Featuring a host of new features and styling changes, the Celica Supra A60 also touted a new "P-Type" performance trim. The "P-Type" performance trim added in flip-up headlights, a slimmed down exterior body, and flared fenders. The 1982 Celica Supra A60 also added a more powerful 2.8-liter engine (161 horsepower/ 169 foot-pounds of torque).

A70 Supra

The first version of the Supra to be a standalone vehicle, the A70 Supra arrived in 1986 and made extensive changes over the previous iteration of the Supra. Other than retaining triangular rear windows, the A70 Supra was an all-new vehicle. The A70 added a rear spoiler, slightly rounded lines of design, and a slightly shortened wheelbase. The A70 also took the inspiration of the A60 "P-Type" and ran with it. The A70 Supra was a performance focused vehicle that came with a host of improved performance aspects. The A70 Supra added a 3.0-liter engine (232 horsepower/ 254 foot-pounds of torque), electronically adjustable dampers, and power-enhancing variable air induction technology. Did we mention the exterior? The A70 Supra also looked dashingly sporty.

A80 Supra

Aesthetically sharing the most with the new 2020 GR Supra, the A80 Supra arrived in 1993 and changed the Supra forever. From a futuristic exterior design to a 3.0-liter engine to a near-perfect weight balance; the A80 put performance at the forefront. With a larger rear spoiler and gently rounded angles, the A80, even by todays standards is dashingly sporty.
