2018 RAV4 vs Honda CR-V

  • When it comes to the standard entertainment systems on the base trims of both SUVs, the Honda CR-V comes standard with four speakers total, with more having to be upgraded with a higher trim. Whereas the entertainment system Toyota RAV4, in its base trim, has six speakers.
  • The Toyota RAV4 has a couple more entertainment features to offer in all trim levels: a CD player and an MP3 decoder. Both of these are absent from the base trim level of the Honda CR-V and must be upgraded.
  • While the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) selected both of these SUVs for their 2018 Top Safety Pick list, the Toyota RAV4 brings in a lot more driver-assistive technology, in all trim levels, through Toyota Safety Sense™ P (TSS-P) and the Star Safety System™. These technologies include Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD), Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA w/SA), Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Smart Stop Technology® (SST), among many others. These technologies are absent from the base trim levels of the Honda CR-V and must be upgraded.
  • The Toyota RAV4 is equipped with limited-slip differential which is unavailable on the Honda CR-V. Limited-slip differential is essential in the drive line as it prevents power and torque from being directed to one specific wheel, thus maximizing traction between the front wheels (in a front-wheel drive system) or all four wheels (in an all-wheel drive system).
  • The Toyota RAV4 has a much lower turning radius of 17.4 feet, meaning it can glide through sharper corners with relative ease. Whereas the turning radius of the Honda CR-V is almost 19 feet.
