2023 Toyota Sequoia

For the first time in 14 years, Toyota has given the Sequoia a full redesign. The three-row, full-size SUV is appearing in its third generation for 2023 with an all-new powertrain and revamped interior. The powertrain is a hybrid setup that combines a V-6 engine with an electric motor. Our Toyota experts here at Koons Tysons have put together some of the highlights of the modernized interior to give you a taste of what’s to come.

Seating and Cargo Storage

Like its predecessor, the 2023 Sequoia is a three-row SUV that can seat up to eight people. The seating capacity drops to seven if you add the optional captain’s chairs in the second row. Both the second and third rows are suitable for adult passengers, thanks to the large quantity of legroom.

One new feature in the 2023 Sequoia is the sliding third row. It allows you to move the third row backward or forward by up to 6 inches. This adjustable row allows you to open up more legroom or more cargo storage space, depending on your requirements. The cargo area also boasts adjustable storage shelves to help you get the most out of the space.

Toyota hasn’t yet released the exact dimensions of the cargo area, but they’re likely to be among some of the best in the class. The Sequoia is built on the same platform as the Tundra full-size pickup, which indicates that there will be plenty of room at the rear. In the previous generation, the Sequoia had about 19 cubic feet behind the rear row and a maximum cargo-carrying capacity of 120 cubic feet with both rear rows folded flat.

The New Capstone Trim

Toyota has added the Capstone trim to the top of the trim ladder for the third-generation Sequoia. The Capstone trim features a luxurious interior, providing you with all the comfort and upscale materials you could wish for.

The Capstone’s upholstery is white-over-black semi-aniline leather. This is the same quality of material used by Toyota in some of its premium vehicles, such as the Lexus LS. The Capstone also gets open-pore walnut wood finishings on the dashboard and acoustic glass on the front doors to help reduce outside noise when you’re traveling on the highway.

Other Sequoia Trims

There are four other trims for the 2023 Sequoia: the SR5, Limited, Platinum, and TRD Pro. Each has different interior features and upgrade options.

The base SR5 trim is fitted with cloth upholstery and comes standard with heated front seats. As you move up through the Limited and Platinum trims, you gain access to a heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated front and rear seats, and second-row sunshades. A panoramic sunroof and hands-free liftgate add an eye-catching feature and even more convenience to the cabin of this three-row SUV.

The Limited trim includes the power-sliding third row. The TRD Pro trim is the one to go for if you plan on doing a lot of off-roading. It includes all of the technology and design features you’ll need to tackle rough terrain with ease.

Infotainment Technology

The Sequoia’s infotainment system is led by an 8-inch screen in the base SR5 trim. However, a huge 14-inch screen is available with the optional Premium package in the base trim and comes standard in all other trims in the lineup.

The Toyota Audio Multimedia system is equipped with a wide variety of exciting features. You can connect two devices at the same time via Bluetooth, stay on top of your messages and news reports while you’re on the go thanks to a wireless hot spot, and get directions from the built-in navigation system.

With Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, you can link your smartphone to the Sequoia’s infotainment system. Linking your phone allows you to easily use your favorite apps, stream music from your phone, and do much more.

Toyota has also equipped the redesigned Sequoia with wireless device charging, so you can ensure your phone has a full battery wherever you are. The head-up display allows you to monitor your SUV’s performance without taking your eyes off the road ahead.

Driver Safety Features

The 2023 Sequoia’s long list of driver safety features is part of the Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 system. The advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) contained within Safety Sense 2.5 range from features to help you park more safely to technology that makes highway driving a more straightforward experience.

One of these features is the Level 2 semi-autonomous highway driving system, which consists of adaptive cruise control and lane centering assistance. Adaptive cruise control can adjust your speed to ensure that you maintain a safe and constant distance from motorists up ahead. However, keep in mind that the semi-autonomous driving system does still require you to keep your hands on the wheel at all times.

Safety Sense 2.5 also features pedestrian detection during daytime and low-light driving, cyclist detection, and automatic emergency braking. All of these features work together to help you avoid collisions or accidents. An intersection assist feature watches for oncoming traffic and pedestrians when you’re turning and can brake the SUV to avoid a collision.

Another useful safety feature is the surround-view parking camera. Thanks to the 360-degree aerial view of the Sequoia you’ll see on your screen, parking this large SUV is much easier.
