Compare 2018 Toyota Prius

See How the Prius Matches Up to its Vienna Rival

The Toyota Prius is an icon when it comes to hybrid vehicles, and for good reason. The first hybrid to hold mass appeal for the auto buying public, it set industry standards for performance, style, and functionality. While other manufacturers developed their own hybrid vehicles, Toyota was busy reinventing the Prius -- making it more sporty and stylish than the previous generation. We thought it would be interesting to take a look at how the Prius compared to its Hyundai Ioniq competitor.

Performance

The Ioniq does enjoy a slight edge when it comes to combined horsepower and torque pound-feet, but the Prius is reported to offer smoother, more aggressive acceleration from a dead stop -- always a priority when driving in Fairfax, Chantilly, Leesburg, and Springfield VA traffic.

Features

The Prius has a longer, taller presence on our busy roads, which comes in handy when you're stuck in a heavy commute. What's interesting to us is that the Prius also offers a tighter turning radius, making it easier to maneuver through that traffic, as well as into and out of tight parking spots.

Speaking of traffic, while the Prius and Ioniq both come with a long list of standard amenities, the Prius includes standard Entune premium radio and a CD player to help make your commute more enjoyable; those aren't even available to add as options for the Ioniq.

Safety

Both hybrid vehicles are well-equipped with standard safety features, but only the Prius comes with the Star Safety System™ and Toyota Safety Sense™ P. These exclusive advanced safety systems offer such driver-assist features as Pre-Collision with Pedestrian Detection, traction control, anti-lock brake system, automatic high beams, dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure alert with steering assist, brake assist, and Smart Stop technology.

While the Hyundai Ioniq comes equipped with some of these features, they aren’t incorporated into a unified system of technologies that work together to make your travels safer.
