After you've done your research, you can come test drive this exceptional SUV here at Koons Tysons Toyota, proudly serving Fairfax and Leesburg, VA!

The 2018 Toyota Highlander vs The 2018 Honda Pilot

  • While both of these SUVs made the list of 2018 Top Safety Picks by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Toyota Highlander received a much higher rating, than that of the Honda Pilot, for its LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) System and its ease of use. The Toyota Highlander also comes standard with front knee airbags, which are absent from the Honda Pilot.
  • The Toyota Highlander has a little bit more room to offer you and your copilot in the front seats with 44.2 inches of front leg room and 40.7 inches of front head room. The Honda Pilot provides about 40.9 inches of front leg room and 40 inches of front head room.
  • While both SUVs feature front automatic climate control for all trim levels, the Toyota Highlander also includes rear climate control for the comfort and convenience of your passengers. This feature is often absent from many SUVs including the Honda Pilot.
  • All trim levels of the Toyota Highlander come standard with entertainment features such as a CD Player and MP3 decoder. Both of these features are absent from the base trim of the Honda Pilot and must be upgraded with a higher trim level.
  • The base trim of the Toyota Highlander comes standard with heated exterior rearview mirrors which provide a bit more safety and convenience when driving in colder or rainy weather conditions. Heated exterior mirrors are another feature that have to be upgraded with a higher trim on the Honda Pilot.

The 2018 Toyota Highlander vs The 2018 Ford Explorer

  • The Toyota Highlander begins at the much lower starting price of $32,025. This is about $1,110 less than the Ford Explorer, which begins at $33,135.
  • While both of these SUVs have three rows of seating, the Toyota Highlander features bench seating in the second and third row to seat a total of eight people. The Ford Explorer features second-row bucket seating and seats seven.
  • The Toyota Highlander has a bit more fuel efficiency to offer as it gains an EPA-estimated 20 miles per gallon in the city and has a fuel capacity of about 19.2 gallons. Whereas the Ford Explorer gains an EPA-Estimated 17 miles per gallon in the city and has the capacity for about 18.6 gallons of fuel.
  • When it comes to the overall safety of both these SUVs, the Toyota Highlander is at a much greater advantage given that the SUV received a spot on the 2018 Top Safety Pick list by IIHS with a "Superior" rating in front crash prevention. The Ford Explorer did not make the 2018 Top Safety Pick list by IIHS and received a "Basic" rating in front crash prevention.
  • The Toyota Highlander comes available with front fog lights, which are designed to bring increased illumination on the surface of roads and, as their name suggests, work the best in weather conditions such as dense fog or heavy rain. Front fog lights are completely unavailable in the base trim of the Ford Explorer and must be upgraded with a higher trim.
